We received some news this month regarding Eva's vision which was very significant in shedding some light on her struggle to read with fluency. The muscles in her eyes have not stabilized. (apparently every one's eye muscles move until approx. 7 years of age, at which point they normally have stopped). This causes her pupils to move continuously and does not allow her to focus visually on anything! Poor thing... this effects her balance as well hence she has struggled and been terrified to ride a bike. We will spend the next year doing eye exercises 5 days a week, and visit the eye doctor once a month to examine progress in strengthening her eye muscles. Her right eye goes in to submission and the left eye does not compensate for it... the two eyes are working independently of each other, not common and causing her a lot of vision issues. We also found out she is color deficient which causes her to not see shades of red/ green. The color deficiency is only found in females less than .01 percent of the time and irreversible. So she cannot be an electrical engineer... and might need help at Christmas time decorating her home, other than that she will be fine. The muscle issue is very likely correctable but must be conquered sooner rather than later to avoid further issues. For now we are praying and working towards improvement and complete correction by the end of one full year and we ask that you keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She initially enjoyed the added attention but quickly became frustrated. During only the second day of eye excersicess, tears ran down her face as she said "i hate these, they hurt!" For now, we are doing what the doctor says and staying positive and hopeful.
Some good news to report is that I was afforded a wonderful career opportunity and seized it! I will no longer be on a high school campus as of the 2013-2014 school year. I will be working as an assessment coordinator for KISD. After 14 years of working with kids in a school setting this will be a big change to say the least! We are excited at the more traditional schedule this will provide us as a family (no more Friday night football!!!). I love the two other women I will be working with and I am very much ready for a change and a new challenge, professionally.
We have taken this summer schedule to reconnect with some of Cole's friends. We had Dyan and Mark over for a quick dinner while they were in town for a wedding. We also had Damien and Tonie for dinner. It has been nice to meet and spend some time with a few of Cole's friends who I had not met or spent time with before now.
We are looking forward to our upcoming trip to the Northeast and for Eva's return from her grandparents in Illinois/ Wisconsin. She is having a great time!!!
